COMCAST AND COX SIGN AGREEMENTS TO OFFER PREMIUM RESIDENTIAL BROADBAND SECURITY SERVICE WITH SECURITY BROADBAND CORP.
Home Security Company to Provide Innovative Service in Select Markets AUSTIN, Texas (January 7, 2002) - Security Broadband Corp., a leading provider of premium home security and communications systems, today announced agreements with Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. and Cox Communications, Inc., to begin limited marketing of Security Broadband’s SafeVillageTM system. The SafeVillage service utilizes the existing broadband capabilities deployed by cable operators to deliver professionally monitored home security services featuring two-way audio and real-time video.

Through its agreements with Comcast and Cox, Security Broadband will deliver the Internet-enabled residential security service to cable modem subscribers in the Sarasota, Fla., area and Las Vegas, Nev., during the first quarter of 2002. Comcast and Cox will become the first operators to introduce the advanced security service to their customers.

“Certain lifestyle and economic conditions in the U.S. are creating a growing desire for people to maintain a connection with their homes and families,” said Dallas Clement, senior vice president, strategy and development of Cox Communications. “We feel the SafeVillage service – through its 24-hour professional monitoring and Web site with remote system access features and security-focused content – will be a compelling product for our customers who want to check in on their homes and families at any time.”

Cox conducted technical trials of the SafeVillage service in the fourth quarter of 2000. The primary objectives of the trial were to test the validity and reliability of the system, assess the upstream demands placed on the cable infrastructure, and measure users’ experience with this new technology. Security Broadband utilized the results from the technical trial to hone its service and develop a more robust and reliable product.

“Comcast is looking forward to introducing the SafeVillage security services in the Sarasota area,” said John Ridall, president of Comcast Cable Southern Division. “Our broadband infrastructure – with our soon to be launched Comcast High-Speed Internet Service – is uniquely positioned to deliver products like the SafeVillage service. As a new products and technology leader, it’s incumbent that we remain at the forefront of introducing innovative products like this interactive home security system to our customers.”

“It is clearly an exciting time for us, as our partnerships with Comcast and Cox enable them to offer our innovative service in a way that is operationally and financially attractive and sound,” said Security Broadband Corp. chief operating officer Anthony Moreno. “Our vision is to provide consumers with a greater sense of safety, convenience and peace of mind.”

With more than 95 percent of home alarm incidents reported as false, there is a strong need for a more effective security system than what is currently available. The SafeVillage system improves verification and reliability of a home security system through two-way audio and real-time video monitoring capabilities. In addition, SafeVillage customers are able to view their homes remotely and interact with family members at home via a password-protected Web site.
